Tucked in the back of the Mitsukoshi Department Store at Epcot®’s Japan pavilion is a counter with a tank full of oysters. Walk right up and hand pick your own oyster for around $16.00. Hand picking an oyster and taking part in the discovery ceremony has to be my all-time favorite souvenir at Walt Disney World® Resort.
After dining upstairs at Japan’s Teppan Edo on our last visit to Epcot, we made our way down into the Mitsukoshi Department Store where I decided to treat myself, my daughters, and my mother to pick our own pearls. We chose our oyster and the Japanese cast member proceeded to open each one for us with great ceremony. Carefully she dug out each pearl, cleaned, and measured them. Then she announced its size and banged a small table drum. Everyone clapped in their excitement of discovering the color and size pearl they had chosen!
The Mitsukoshi Department Store offers many different kinds of settings for your pearl, from earrings and rings to pins and necklaces. However, I came prepared with yet another surprise. I found beautiful Cinderella carriage pearl cages for our pearls, much to everyone’s delight.
On your next Disney vacation stop by the Japan Pavilion. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!!
You’ll also find pick pearl locations at Downtown Disney® District and Disney’s Beach Club Resort.
