After only one day on my Adventure By Disney tour of Italy I would venture to say there couldn’t be a better choice for family travel. The “Junior Adventurers” were treated like royalty, and Marco, our Italian Adventure Guide, had the children in giggles half the day. After 10-year-old Bryce accidentally dropped and broke his Coliseum statuette on our walk through Rome I caught Courtney, our American Adventure guide, buying a replacement for him in a shop along the way. Bryce’s giant-size smile was her reward when she handed him a replica of the one he lost!
The pace was perfect. No rushing through important sites, something that I thought was a given on group tours. Our local Roman guide, Christina, was unbelievably informative, yet so entertaining. She really made the ancient world come alive for all of us. And sure enough, before the day was out, we all felt like one big happy family. Even as an adult traveling without children I was thrilled to see Rome through all the little one’s eyes.
It’s certainly the small things that make a big difference. A bag full of coins for the group to throw in the Trevi Fountain, lunch in a pizzeria with a jovial and entertaining owner hosting the feast, a stop for a gelato treat at the end of a long day.
So our second day ended with the Coliseum, the Forum, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and many memories behind us. Tomorrow the Vatican.
